Restoration > Ponds > Wooded

One of Environmental Concerns early experiments, this wooded wetland pond started on open ground and now has trees that are 20 years old. Since this wetland was planted we have designed and created several other wooded ponds.

Key components to a wooded wetland, other than water, are a canopy layer of tall trees, an understory layer of shrubs, and an herbaceous layer of shade tolerant plants.

Benefits of this type of wetland include breeding habitat for many amphibians, nesting habitat for birds, flood storage, and nutrient uptake.

Since trees take a long time to grow, patience is required.
